Trehalose and other sugar solutions at low temperature: modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC)
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the aqueous solutions of trehalose, sucrose, fructose and glucose at concentrations from 0.2 to 70 wt % at low temperature using modulated differential scanning calorimetry. The amount of heat released or absorbed during freezing and melting was measured as well as the freezing/melting point depression by the sugars. Results indicate that trehalose in aqueous solution leads to less freezing of water molecules compared with sucrose, glucose and fructose solutions.

Differential scanning calorimetry studies of clathrate hydrate formation
Article Abstract:
Differential scanning calorimetry has been applied to investigate the formation of tetrahydrofuran and cyclopentane (CP) clathrate hydrates. An emulsion technique is developed to determine the hydration number and the enthalpy of CP hydrate dissociation to liquid water and liquid cyclopentane.

Lateral intermolecular forces between biomembrane lipids in two dimensions: 1,2-dipalmitin at the heptane/water interface compared with phospholipids
Article Abstract:
The contribution of the diglyceride portion of phospholipids molecules to the lateral intermolecular forces is studied. It is found that the contribution of the diglyceride moiety to the pair potentials of the phospholipids is minor but not neglible.
