hochgepumpt
Article Abstract:
The German pump industry is expecting a significant growth in production in 1998, after turnover grew by 0.2% to DM 5.779bn in 1997. Since the all-time high of 1995, pump production had been declining in Germany. The VDMA engineering industry association expects a production increase of 5% for 1998, while the entire engineering sector is expected to grow by 6% in real terms. Exports of pumps increased by 12.2% to DM 4.39bn in 1997. The positive trend continued in the first quarter of 1998 with a further 11.4% increase over the same period of 1997. Imports grew in 1997 by another 8.5% to DM 2.242bn, after a growth of 19.5% in 1996. German pump manufacturers have been cautious in entering Southeast Asian markets, which is why the impact of the economic crisis is to remain at a manageable level. Instead, they can make the best use of the increasing demand in the European Union.

GERMANY: PUMP MAKERS OPTIMISTIC FOR 2000
Article Abstract:
German producers of pumps report high capacity utilisation levels but expect production to stagnate in 1999. A slight recovery might be seen in 2000. The German engineering industry association VDMA reports that in 1998 Germany's production of liquid pumps increased 11% to DM 6.429bn. Production of rotary positive-displacement pumps grew 22.5%, that of oscillating positive-displacement pumps 11.7% and centrifugal pumps 7.6%. The exports of liquid pumps increased 5.3% to DM 4.622bn, with those of oscillating positive-displacement pumps growing 13.9%, rotary positive-displacement pumps 6.4% and centrifugal pumps 4.8%.

EUROPE: GROWING DEMAND FOR TEXTILE COLOURS
Article Abstract:
A study by Frost & Sullivan predicts the European market for textile colours to grow at an annual rate of 0.5% just over US$ 1bn by the year 2004. The rate of growth is forecast to accelerate from 0.1% in 1998 to 0.7% in 2004.
