2-(Trimethylsilyl)ethanesulfonyl (or SES) group in amine protection and activation
Article Abstract:
2-(Trimethylsilyl)ethanesulfonyl (or SES) group is an amine protecting group described in several types of synthesis. Beyond the simple amine protection, the reagents derived from SES-[NH.sub.2] give access to a large variety of amino compounds by direct introduction of SES-sulfonamide into a substrate, and stability, orthogonality, and mild conditions of deprotection and activating properties make the use of the SES protecting group in synthesis very attractive, competitive with the tosyl group.

Group V and VI alkali nitridometalates: a growing class of compounds with structures related to silicate chemistry
Article Abstract:
A survey of published literature on the synthesis and characterization of nitridometalates with tetrahedral coordination of group V and VI transition metals by nitrogen is presented. The review, which show their structural similarity to oxosilicates and phosphates, includes compounds prepared from ternary nitrides, oxides and organic precursors. Structures investigated include compounds with isolated tetrahedra, loop-branched units and layers of connected octahedra.

Activation and inactivation of hydrogenase function and the catalytic cycle: spectroelectrochemical studies
Article Abstract:
Several spectroelectrochemical studies are conducted to study the activation and inactivation of the hydrogenase function and the catalytic cycle involved in hydrogen production. The hydrogenases can be converted to dormant stage by lowering the catalytic efficiency to overcome the oxygen problem.
