Interactions of carcinogen-bound DNA with individual DNA polymerases
Article Abstract:
Reactive forms of chemicals become attached to DNA and proteins and the structure of these DNA carcinogen adducts are characterized. Studies of translesion polymerases, kinetics of DNA polymerases interacting with modified DNA and structures of DNA polymerases bound to DNA help in the understanding of the interactions of DNA polymerases with carcinogens bound to DNA, leading to better knowledge of mutation spectra.

Biochemical, structural, and physiological characterization of terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase
Article Abstract:
The classification of DNA polymerases is explored and an attempt is made to define terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) in relation to its peers. The enzymatic functions, physical, characteristics and regulation of TdT are outlined, the process of V(D)J recombination is explored and some preliminary work suggesting the TdT may play a role in specific types of learning and memory storage is discussed.

Probing enzyme phosphoester interactions by combining mutagenesis and chemical modification of phosphate ester oxygens
Article Abstract:
The enzymes that directly and indirectly interact with phosphate esters for promoting catalysis are highlighted. The dense display of lone pair electrons on the phosphate ester oxygens and the overall negative charge of the phosphate ester group give unique opportunities for strong hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions.
