Sequencing reactions with samarium(II) iodide
Article Abstract:
One-pot, sequential reactions present an ideal solution to the problems in organic synthesis. A major challenge in these reactions is the failure of existing methodologies to produce compounds with high yields, high stereoselectivities and exhibit increased molecular complexity without increasing the number of individual reactions taking place in the overall process. This review presents the chemistry of samarium(II) iodide, a reagent that exhibits exceptional properties for sequential reactions. The discussion is divided into two major parts: the individual reactions, and, the sequential reactions promoted by this reagent.

Asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions
Article Abstract:
Asymmetric 1,3-DC reactions of a series of dipoles with alkenes are necessary in the construction of five-membered rings. The application of 1,3-DC reaction, which is also suitable in the synthesis of optically active target molecules, is noticeable in products formed from dipoles such as nitrones, nitrile oxides and azomethine ylides. The asymmetric-metal catalyzed 1,3-DC reactions are necessary in analyzing metal catalysis and optically active compounds.

Ellagitannin chemistry
Article Abstract:
The promising role of ellagitannins in cancer therapy and the availability of modern nuclear magnetic resonance techniques have contributed to the elucidation of the chemistry and biochemistry of these class of natural products. This review presents a mechanistic analysis of ellagitannin chemistry. Some solutions to the challenges in the synthesis of these products are also provided.
