Transition metal-catalyzed oxidation of sulfur(IV) oxides. Atmospheric-relevant processes and mechanisms
Article Abstract:
Examination of the atmospheric oxidation of sulfur(IV) oxides, catalyzed by transition metals, indicates that oxidation of sulfur(IV) oxides in rain water is influenced by the pH and the iron concentration. Autoxidation of sulfur(IV) oxides by transition metal is localized to industrialized regions. Reaction conditions influence the rate of transition metals-catalyzed oxidation of sulfur(IV) oxides. A comparative study suggests that iron and manganese are efficient catalysts for the oxidation of sulfur(IV) oxides.

Electronic and atomic structure, and magnetism of transition-metal clusters
Article Abstract:
A review of recent research into the links between electronic structure, magnetism and atomic structure in clusters of transition elements is presented. The properties of these clusters vary with cluster size in an unsmooth manner, sometimes showing oscillations whose amplitude decays for rising size.
