Higher Grades May Brighten Profit Picture: High Bias, Metal Audio Tape to Get Pushed
Article Abstract:
Audio, videotape and blank floppy disks will provide retailers with tremendous sales opportunities, at least through '87. The expansion in sales will be accompanied by a shrinkage in profits. To combat this manufacturers are producing higher grade products hoping customers will be willing to pay the extra dollars. Audio cassette manufacturers will take a very aggressive stance on high bias tape, and introductions in metal tape are expected. Floppy disks sales will grow, but competing formats, three, 3.25, and 3.75 inch, will eventually cause a shakeout.
