IBM: The Next Five Years

Article Abstract:

IBM is reaching for $100 billion in revenues, and the office market presents major opportunities for growth. According to their 1984 annual report, revenues from office system workstations accounted for 22.8 percent of domestic revenues of $27.4 billion in 1984, not including software or mainframe revenues attributable to office environments. Document Content Architecture (DCA) and Document Interchange Architecture (DIA) are keys to creating integrated text, data, graphics, voice, and images in future office strategy. A schematic diagram relating IBM software products to office systems is included.

Cold Circuits Are a Hot Prospect for Next Stop in Electronics Revolution

Article Abstract:

Extremely cold electronic circuits based on superconductors instead of semiconductors, are at the heart of new devices being tested by the National Bureau of Standards (NBS). Superconducting circuits have been produced that perform certain functions such as logic, counting, sampling, and analog-to-digital conversion faster than other known technologies. NBS is using cryoelectronic circuits to analyze and count electrical signals more quickly and to detect magnetic fields and electrical currents more sensitively than other known instruments.
