Oracle adds IT certification

Oracle Corp is launching the Oracle Certified Professional Program that is designed to verify the skills of information technology vendors. The program initially offers a track for Oracle Database Administrators. To be certified, candidates should pass four tests, which cover Oracle7 database administration, Oracle7 backup and recovery, Oracle7 performance tuning and SQL and PL/SQL, that Sylvan Prometric will begin to offer in Dec 1997.

John Hancock takes desktop certification to its business units

John Hancock Financial Services Inc's Technical Education Center is enhancing its own certification program geared toward its particular business units. The enhancement of the company's PC Fitness Challenge Program coincides with its effort to move from Windows 3.1 to Windows NT. At present, the program, which has effected over 2,000 test hits, has an enrolment of around 500 workers
