The Micro Peripheral Outlook: Hello Systems, Goodbye Independence
Article Abstract:
Users are buying complete systems more and more, instead of having multi-vendor computer systems. This means increased sales directly through manufacturers and distributors, and less for retailers. This is bad news for peripheral manufacturers also, as computer makers will make more peripherals in-house. By 1994, office system integration will be commonplace, and desktop computers will be as powerful as today's minis. OEMs will gain control of the marketplace. Communications hardware has the best growth potential, with estimates that the market will grow thirteen times larger by 1994. A table describing the forecast for micro peripheral sales is given. The forecast was developed by International Resource Development.

Trilogy Systems to Retreat from U.S. Mainframe Market
Article Abstract:
After four years of research, Trilogy Systems Corporation has abandoned work on mainframe computers. Its development work was based on wafer-scale integration and the development of a 2.5 inch silicon wafer. Production delays reduced the cost performance, and the shipment date for the computer was pushed ahead to 1987. Trilogy may have made a mistake, because several companies have invested millions of dollars in the acquisition of technical licenses.
