WebWare enables Landor to extend its brand stewardship
Article Abstract:
Landor Associates was one of the branding pioneers, and it uses WebWare's Media Asset Management by Objects (MAMBO) web-based brand resource management software to manage its customers' brands. MAMBO automates branding supply chains at workgroup and enterprise levels and uses an internal workflow system based on a repository for current projects and existing brand assets. It uses the web for client communications, including approvals of projects, campaigns, brand identity and assets in progress. Landor intends to extend MAMBO to client branding supply chains to maintain brands across media and markets. MAMBO Workgroup costs from $50,000 and scales from five users to a complete enterprise. MAMBO Enterprise costs from $500,000 and can be customized to existing production applications. MAMBO Application Service costs from $2,000 per month and provides hosted services. WebWare Chmn and CEO Lauren Flanagan says branding is the key to successful electronic commerce.

ThumbsPlus is the hands-down winner for price and performance
Article Abstract:
Cerious Software's ThumbsPlus digital asset management software provides high-end features at prices starting at just $80 for a single-user license, and from only $300 for a multiuser license. ThumbsPlus is used widely to organize, view and edit graphics and other media in more than 80 file formats. The thumbnails of files can be viewed in several preset sizes as well as in user-defined sizes with various levels of visual feedback. Among its built-in image-processing features are interpolated resampling, color correction, optimizing to common palettes, sharpen, blur, noise removal and embedding, and watermark detection. Thumbnails can be made automatically from new images, and the program's multi-step batch processing allows a series of photos from the same source to be corrected and enhanced in a single operation.

Here, talent, talent, talent...
Article Abstract:
Companies are scrambling to find skilled web producers and designers. Razorfish Managing Dir Len Sellers says recruiters should use their own contacts, join listservs, sponsor industry events, and get current employees to help in the search. Sellers says staff are also the best resource for screening candidates, and Razorfish involves designers in the interviewing process. iXL Internet Art Dir Paul Hicks says web design companies rarely use outside agencies, and he says informal networking and local professional organizations are the best way to recruit new workers. Companies such as Razorfish and iXL succeed by offering challenging work, a comfortable work environment, and good pay and benefits. Organic.com uses a monthly speaker series and in-house training and development to retain workers.
