A year of events - some good, some disturbing
Article Abstract:
The recreational boating industry had mixed results during 1998 with boats 27 feet and longer showing strong sales. However, that cannot be said of boats less than 27 feet, which experienced weak sales. Similarly, sales of personal watercraft were down with dealers experiencing rising inventories. Sales of aluminum and pontoon boats have reached their maximum levels but there was a resurgence in the sale of deck boats. There was also a rise in the merger of boating dealerships in 1998, to form companies that can be taken public.

IMTEC grows, but loses some big names
Article Abstract:
The International Marine Trades Exhibit and Conference (IMTEC), to be held in Orlando, FL, from Aug 18-20, 1999, will be the biggest in the event's history. But the event's 1999 edition will not see the participation of the industry's two biggest boatbuilders. Brunswick Corp, the parent of US Marine and Sea Ray Group as well as Mercury Marine, and Outboard Marine Corp have both cited earlier dealer meetings that have made attendance at IMTEC unnecessary.
