E-marketing technology firm EZface.com has developed a software that enables viewers to see sunglasses and eye makeup on a "virtual mirror." Users using its Web sites will be able to download a document that explains how to use the technology. Viewers are instructed to upload a photograph. The photograph is encrypted, encoded and then stored on the user's hard drive. The picture can be accessed whenever the viewer logs on the Web site. It will be marketed to beauty sites and fashion-oriented retailers.

Iworks, NBC 5 plan online business directory

Chicago technology utility company Iworks and Chicago NBCTV station NBC5 have created a partnership to form NBC5 Plaza, an online directory of Chicago businesses that provide hosting and access to a personalized, three-page Web site for free to a business owner. The directory is aimed at small- and medium-sized businesses that have been excluded from competing on the Internet due to economic or technological obstacles.

US losing Internet lead to Europe

Article Abstract:

North America will see its share of Internet users fall below 50% in 1999, according to a report from Internet information company eMarketer. The number of active users in the US and Canada will reach 64.8 million in 1999, compared with 65.8 million for the rest of the world. By 2002, North America's share will drop to 34.8%, while Europe's share will expand to nearly 30%.
