Embankment Place in London, UK has been recognised as one of the UK's most innovative office complexes and has reanimated the Charing Cross/Thames area. It was completed in 1990 by developer Greycoat and British Rail Property Board offering 33,600 metres squared of office space. The UK's largest firm of accountants Coopers and Lybrands moved into the building in Nov 1992. The annual lease cost is 16 million pounds sterling. The fit-out cost excluding furniture and fees cost 14.4 million pounds sterling. The building has 9 floors with vistas of the River Thames.

UK architects Derek Latham and Co specialises in mingling historic style with the modern. Latham redesigned Derby's Midland House into British Rail's regional headquarters at a cost of 4.8 million pounds sterling. It was built in 1865 as Midland Rail's administration office. Minimal internal structural layout was requested. Empress Brewery in Manchester, UK was refurbished at a cost of 4 million pounds sterling. New-build workshops and offices were designed. Most of the building was derelict.
