An open and shut case
Article Abstract:
There are a large range of differently designed and coloured windows and doors available in the 90s. Many doors may look wooden but are made from fibreboard or flax. White PVCu is the most popular type of window frame in the UK. A new PVCu woodgrain finish accounts for 6% of the market. Many companies offer windows that are differently coloured on both sides. Sashes and beading can also be a different colour. Slide and tilt sash windows allow ease of cleaning. Most doors have to be resistance to water and air penetration and severe weather conditions under the British Standard 6375.

A sticky business
Article Abstract:
New health and safety legislation requires building contractors to use non-solvent flooring adhesives where possible and to provide employees with breathing equipment in a well-ventialted area. Solvent-based adhesives are still considered more effective by builders and there is a lack of effective non-solvent adhesives available. Non-solvent adhesives take longer to dry. Some concrete floors take up to a year to dry. Colas Flooring has produced Quickstick Green that is the UK's first solvent-free, non-flammable, strong contact adhesive.

Fresh faced
Article Abstract:
A new approach towards the use of bricks in being taken in the 90s. Cheap, uninviting, inefficient institutional buildings were created in the 60s and 70s. The use of honey-coloured and yellow bricks and detailed design can transform a building at no real extra cost. Feature designs used are dentil courses and bands in contrasting colours. Pointing, joint profile and mortar colour is also important. There are over 600 types of brick available on the market in 1992.
