Arguing the case for keeping things simple
Article Abstract:
The Architects' Council of Europe (ACE) claims that European politicians aim to reduce the architectural profession by increasing architect numbers, reducing the training period and reducing the status of the profession. This it claims will result in a society deprived of architecture of any magnificence. The ACE's claim is based on the International Union of Architects' claim that there are 3 times as many architects than is needed in Europe and an opinion poll in The European that states that design is ninth out of a list of 10 factors leading to the purchase of a home.

The environment crisis: do we really believe it?
Article Abstract:
People will not change their ways to save the environment unless the issues can be made comprehensible on an everyday level. The Rio Earth Summit proposed a global bill of 324 pounds sterling for transforming captialist economies into sustainable systems. This works out as 2,000 pounds per household which is politically unacceptable at present. People are confused about the reality of the threats to the environment and until there is certainty or a disaster large enough to force action, little will be done.
