Article Abstract:
It is believed that eight consortia have expressed interest in upgrading work to the London Underground network. The public-private partnership programme for the London Underground will involve upgrading three sets of lines, with bidders being paid over 25 to 30 years. Other firms, including Alfred McAlpine and Westinghouse, have expressed interest in working for consortia at a later date. There is uncertainty about the exact role of Bechtel, which is believed to be on the point of joining Railtrack in working on the sub-surface lines.
