Bargain basement
Article Abstract:
Thermonex have developed a prefabricated basement system which could reduce the cost of house construction in the UK. In Sweden the prefabricated panels are already being used for house and warehouse construction. The firm plans to expand its operation into the UK. The Thermonex system would cost around 28,000 pounds sterling in a large detached house compared to 50,000 pounds sterling when using traditional methods. The panels are factory made to order. Door and window frames, junction and electric conduits can be incorporated into the panels whilst they are being manufactured.

Clear as a bell
Article Abstract:
A 660,000 pounds sterling glass-clad church bell-tower has been installed at St. Martin's Church, Basildon, England, after the rector of the church decided it would be nice for the public to be able to view campanologists ringing the church bells. The architect was faced with designing a strong building which could cope with the force exerted by eight heavy swaying bells while ensuring the view of the bell-ringers was not obscured by the glass frame. Sound specialists were also employed to ensure the sound of the bells did not deafen the ringers.
