Beating the ban
Article Abstract:
A guide to safe but blacklisted building materials has been compiled by experts at the British Council Offices, British Property Federation and construction practice Ove Arup and Partners. The Good Practice in the Selection of Construction Materials report, which contains over 50 wrongly blacklisted items, was written to encourage the industry to start using the safe materials again. Many of the substances in the report were banned for no apparent reason even though they are sometimes more cost effective than other substances.

Art and power
Article Abstract:
The Tate Gallery of Modern Art, currently under construction at Bankside, London, England, is now approaching practical completion. This major project still seems far from finished, but Stanhope, which is responsible for project management, is confident that that the 11,000 sq mt gallery will be completed on time. There was unexpectedly slow progress on the steelwork programme, and architect Harry Gugger, project partner with Herzog de Meuron, has expressed concerns about the quality of work on site.
