Bending the law
Article Abstract:
The new magistrates' courthouse in Southampton, England, has been a very difficult project which took 12 months of talks to finalise its design. The unusual design was created by Hampshire County Council's own architecture department. Some of the design work was only completed once the expert subcontractors had been employed. The main contractor for the building was Norwest Holst Construction. Norwest has not met the specified time limit for closing the roof but hope to close it by the end of Sept 1998. The building cost 9.8 million pounds sterling and is due to be finished by Feb 1999.

Article Abstract:
Bryant Homes' is adapting several of its two-storey house styles to three-storey living. The houses, originally with three bedrooms, have a self-contained master bedroom suite in the roof, complete with a walk-in dressing area and fitted wardrobes. Meanwhile, Beazer Homes is introducing its room-in-the-roof concept at a site in Dunfermiline, Scotland, although the increased floor space is not fully finished, allowing buyers to develop it themselves. Stewart Milne Homes and Persimmon Homes North East are also experimenting with the new format.
