Blowing in the wind
Article Abstract:
The 90 million pounds sterling Regional Performing Arts Centre in Philadelphia, PA, designed by US architect Rafael Vinoly, features an enormous barrel-vaulted glass roof. The building will have a semi-circular profile and will be completely clad in glass. This design had presented significant engineering challenges. Each of the two massive glass facades, which form the end walls, are being supported from a series of 22 mm diameter high-tensile steel cables suspended from a narrow supporting arch.
