Boating for Women folds after publishing five issues
Article Abstract:
Primedia, a New York City, NY-based publisher, stopped printing Boating for Women magazine after just five issues due to lack of advertisers. Publisher John Bean said Boating for Women may re-appear in the form of a newsletter. Bean attributed the failure of the magazine more on poor timing than with a lack of women boaters. Boating for Women has been accused by some women in the industry of being sexist. Gurnee, IL-based Jerry Martin Associates Laura Martin accused the magazine of patronizing female boaters.

Motor Boating is back, without the '& Sailing'
Article Abstract:
Times Mirror has stricken out the word 'sailing' from the masthead of Motor Boating magazine. Sailboats were included in the focus of the magazine at the height of the fuel shortage in the 1970s. Back then, the editors felt that powerboaters would change to sailboats overnight but the magazine's 30-year affair with sailboats never really prospered. Nonetheless, editor-in-chief Louisa Rudeen said that they would cover sailboats occasionally.
