Brickwork's new course
Article Abstract:
The use of brickwork within the UK construction industry needs to be developed towards prefabricated cladding, after the government launched an initiative to reduce intensive labour practices and increase efficiency. Prefabricated brickwork has been used and developed by consulting engineering firm Curtins since 1968. Brickwork can be limited by the strength of mortar, making it difficult to use for supporting structures, unless strengthened by steel rods and cables. Curtins built a footbridge supported by prefabricated brickwork.

Jolly green giant
Article Abstract:
Commerzbank's new headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany, stands 298.74 mt high with 52 stories, and costs 212 million pounds sterling. The building is unusual in that it is naturally ventilated with distributed facilities rather than a central core and areas within the facade to accommodate gardens. Unlike traditional buildings, the foundations are piled rather than raft, and steel instead of concrete is the main material used. The Commerzbank headquarters is Europe's tallest building.
