Building indicators
Article Abstract:
The 3 months after the Conservative 1992 election victory were forecasted to be a growth period in the construction industry. This has not occurred. Private commercial and industrial orders have decreased by 28% and private residential by 13%. Public sector building orders have decreased to 879 million pounds sterling. This could mean a decline of 1% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) for 1993. New architectural commissions have dropped to 6.8 billion pounds sterling for the 1st quarter 1992 and production drawings to 4.6 billion pounds sterling. Housebuilding figures are 100,000 lower than 1991 level.
