Constructionline: is it worth it?
Article Abstract:
The number of contractors and consultants who have registered with Constructionline have decreased by 2,000 since its was set up in 1998. Constructionline is a list of contractors and consultants who have been approved for public sector work. It is run by Capita. Some of the companies using the scheme point out local authorities still use their own lists. Whilst others admit they have not gained extra work from being registered. The cost of re-registration is 1,000 pounds sterling. A firm which has not registered with Constructionline confirms they have not lost any contracts.

Speak easy
Article Abstract:
Ridge and Partners plan to install voice recognition software in their four offices in the UK, for the use of their 38 building surveyors. It will cost 20,000 pounds sterling. They hope the new system will improve customer service by making reports available in less time and cut the number of temporary clerical staff. Research and Development Director David Walker has been in charge of evaluating the system and overseeing its introduction into the company.
