Article Abstract:
In June, new construction starts were up 5% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $489.1 billion, according to F.W. Dodge Division of McGraw-Hill Companies. Construction totaled $240,441 mil for the first six months of 2001, with nonresidential building accounting for $81,239 million. The value of the new single-family housing market is expected to rise to $224 billion by end-2001, an about 1% rise over 2000. Also discussed and tabulated are nonresidential, residential and nonbuilding construction.

Johns Manville of Denver, CO, has received regonition from the US Dept of Energy and the National Assn of Home Builders for its commitment to helping builders and consumers build energy-efficient house. In Jan 2001, the company's five programs, inclduing its Performance Home program, were honored for saving consumers throughout the country approximately $46 million annually in utility bills.

Total construction will increase $43 billion in 2001
Article Abstract:
Total construction will only increase 5% in 2001, less than 1% to the growth recorded in 2000, according to estimates made byFMI of Raleigh, NC. Overall construction in 2001 will reach $856 billion, compared to $813 billion in 2000. The $43-billion growth is divided between $9 billion in residential, $23 billion in nonresidential and $11 billion in non-building structures.
