Contractors tap into 250m pounds sterling Cheltenham spy centre

Article Abstract:

Final interviews are to be held in Sep 1997 with contractors seeking to be shortlisted for the redevelopment of the Government Communications Headquarters in Cheltenham, England. It is believed that the companies most likely to be shortlisted are Tarmac, Bovis and Amec. The project, worth 250 million pounds sterling, will be the largest private finance initiative scheme ever in the UK. At present, GCHQ operates from two sites near the centre of Cheltenham. It may consolidate at one of these sites, or choose another site within 10 miles of the town.

'Cursed' 250m pounds sterling MPs' building faces review

Article Abstract:

The building programme for the UK's 250 million pounds sterling New Parliamentary Building has been delayed by around 15 weeks because of engineering problems, according to the Parliamentary Accommodation and Works Committee. It is likely that further delays will arise as a result of the failure of insitu concrete stitches to achieve the required strength. However, the target date for occupation in 2001 will still be met. The cost of the delay should be contained within the projected overall cost of the project.

Dearer, dera, dear

Article Abstract:

Design-and-build contractor Shepherd is nearing completion of a new headquarters in Farnborough, England, for the British government's Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA). The cost of the project, originally 72 million pounds sterling, could rise to around 100 million pounds sterling by the time it is completed. Complex electrical and mechanical requirements, primarily in the main testing hall, have been mostly to blame for the cost overrun.
