Article Abstract:

A survey undertaken jointly by Building magazine and ABI researchers for the third Qtr 1992, shows that house building is the most stable area in the UK construction market, accounting for 52% of the market. Small projects worth less than 1 million pounds sterling account for 74% of the construction industry workload; 10% more than in 1991. Projects worth more than 10 million pounds sterling account for 4% of the market as compared to 7% in 1991. Commercial contracts are 12% of the market as compared to 17% in 1991. The South West, North West and East Midlands are the best areas for work.

Testing positive: the Building/Gallup industry survey

Article Abstract:

The UK building industry now shows increased confidence vs 1st qtr 1993, with 84% of senior executives questioned expecting market improvement by June 1994, according to a Building/Gallup Survey conducted in June 1993. Some 87% believe that the economy as a whole will improve by June 1994, and extensive recovery is expected by 1995 by 35% of those surveyed. Only 21% of housebuilders expect a rise in prices over the next three months or the next year. Stocks of houses have fallen to 1,249, vs 2,712 in March 1993.

Employment survey

Article Abstract:

A survey of employment in the building industry shows that the benefits offered by consultants and contractors are broadly in line with those offered by other industries. The study reveals that 54% of building companies pay a bonus, although only 75% of consultants and contractors have company pension schemes, compared with 82% for management.
