Marine lenders say business is up
Article Abstract:
A survey of the members of the National Marine Bankers Assn (NMBA) has indicated that 70% of the respondents said that business had increased by between 20% and 30% in 1997, compared to 1996, with 82% of the respondents predicting that business would increase further in 1998 by 23%-25%. Survey results indicate that purchases of big and used boats appear to have been the driving forces behind significant gains in marine lending in 1997 and 1998. The figures for 1998 are still being compiled.

N.C. marinas win submerged-lands issue
Article Abstract:
Quentin T. Summer, a judge of the Superior Court in Craven County, NC, has ruled that marinas perform a public service when they grant access to the water. The decision, promulgated on May 12, 1999, resulted in the dismissal of a lawsuit filed by environmental groups that contests the policy of the state regarding the use of submerged lands. The groups are protesting the practice of charging only $1,000 per acre for a 50-year renewable easement, a price that the groups claim is a giveaway.
