Design standard still on horizon for marinas
Article Abstract:
The International Marina Institute has been working on an industry standard for marina design including dock systems. However, it is having difficulty getting marina operators to reach a consensus partly because of the characteristics of each site that are peculiar to it location. Thus, dock manufacturers and marina consultants continue to rely on a number of sources for design guidelines, including those outlined by the Army Corp of Engineers, Americans with Disabilities Act, National Fire Protection Assn's Standard 303 and the Society of Civil Engineers' Planning and Design Guidelines for Small Craft Harbors.

Maine marinas avoid proposed dockage tax
Article Abstract:
A bill, which was aimed at imposing an additional 6% tax to dockage fees for all recreational boats larger than 19 ft at coastal marinas, died of inaction. The bill exempted commercial vessels and boats less than 19 ft in length and inland marinas. The additional tax would have placed an additional burgen on Maine boaters who are already saddled with fuel tax, excise tax and sales tax on supplies that they purchase for their boats.
