Down with designers
Article Abstract:
The UK construction industry must clarify the role of architects in relation to contractors, as many professional members of the industry believe architects are given too much power without the necessary ability to provide adequate leadership. The industry is undergoing a time of change, where emphasis is being placed on contractor-led projects, which should ensure developments are built following the government's best practice code. Architects may be good at designing buildings but few have the experience to manage a construction site.

When the builder must start to count the cost
Article Abstract:
The UK recession and compulsory competitive tendering has resulted in builders being the victims of architects and quantity surveyors. There is a trend for builders to be underpayed at the end of the contract resulting in debt. It is believed that builders will settle for less even though the contact stipulated a fixed sum. Traditionally if problems occurred the cost of the architect and quantity surveyor would be hidden in the prime cost sums, estimating errors would be disguised and valuations would be honoured.
