European telecom, Web rush continues
Article Abstract:
US telecommunications companies continue to venture into Europe, seemingly unaffected by similar posturings by continental companies which are out to defend their market share. Recent transatlantic deals include the $5 billion takeover of UK-based Esprit Telecom Group by Global TeleSystems Group and the acquisition of Orion Telekom BV by IDT of Hackensack, NJ. However, some local companies, such as Netlife GmbH, are not taking the threat sitting down. Netlife, an electronic-commerce and banking software provider, plans to open an office in London.
