Experian adds to recent global acquisitions with firms in Germany, Italy

Experian, a database provider based in Germany, is slated to integrate the firms it acquired in Italy, Germany, France and the UK into its four business divisions known as business information and support, credit bureaus, credit references, and information services. Experian International president Jayne Barber indicated that global markets require the quick delivery of precise data for decision-making purposes. Experian general manager of the business support services Peter Thompson noted that Experian will try to take advantage of present opportunites that crop up. Thompson also stated that communication centers have become the new alternative to conventional call centers.

MTV Germany fights "Flickering Corpse" image

MTV Germany recently rolled out its own Web site as part of a campaign to bolster declining viewership and re-establish the brand in the market. The company has allocated DM 12 million or $6.74 million for the promotion of the new MTV. The Website contains program information, news of interest to actual and potential viewers. It is linked to other MTV programs including MTV US, MTV UK, MTV Nordic and MTV Interactive. MTV is fighting off the challenge posed by a report made by German news magazine Der Spiegel, which called MTV and sister channel VH-1 a "flickering corpse." MTV downplays the report and remains firm that it has been and still is profitable in Germany.

Duetsche Post buys AEI to boost global business, strengthen public bid

Deutsche Post has acquired Express International Corp for $1.14 billion as part of a global push to make the German firm the dominant courier service in Europe and to prepare the firm for its initial public offering in 2000. Deutsche Post believes that only a few major players will survive in the existing competitive landscape of the courier services business. Thus, its ability to compete internationally is critical. The firm has already spent more than $6 billion since 1998 to become a major player in the US and Europe.
