Shop lifting
Article Abstract:
The UK shopfitting industry expects that the workload in 1996 will reach some 1.2 billion pounds sterling, the highest amount since the late 1980s. It is forecast that activity levels will remain high to the turn of the century and beyond. The National Association of Shopfitters, which lost around one third of its members during the recession, is expecting numbers to increase from its current membership of 160. Leading shopfitter Styles and Wood is set to tackle 55 million pounds sterling worth of business in 1996, against 33 million pounds sterling in 1995.

Workload sends lead times soaring ...
Article Abstract:
Specialist contractors in the UK are now taking longer to begin working on site, according to research undertaken by quantity surveying firm Gardiner and Theobald and construction consultancy Mace. Lead times have increased particularly among escalator, lift and concrete frame contractors. The construction industry is still working at less than half of the peak seen in the late 1980s, but specialist contracting resources are now much more scarce.
