First division players
Article Abstract:
Internal walls account for 3% of the cost of housebuilding. New cost effective products have been developed during the 90s. They include dry-lining systems, such as Gyproc Gypliner which is a light metal frame used to divide walls. Gypliner offers a variety of different plasterboard types. The main advantage is that no wall preparation is necessary. Fibre-reinforced gypsum board is also popular, such as Fermacell which is more hard-wearing than plasterboard. Streamline Building Products has a reinforced gypsum board panel on offer which has a hollow multi-cellular cross section.

The building is in the shape of a ship and uses curved curtain wall glazing. The curtain walling is made up of 700 panes of clear toughened glass, attached to an external steel frame, costing 1.1 million pounds sterling. The glass walling has been delayed due to installation difficulties. The front half of the building provides 5,000 metres squared of office space and the rear houses the printing hall and paper store.

Plant higher
Article Abstract:
The popularity of roof garden design is increasing in the UK due to the improvement in soil, drainage, irrigation, plants and flat roofing designs. The most important factor is the substructure which can be expensive. New materials have lowered roof loadings. An average low main roof only adds 65kg/m2 to the overall weight. Research in arboriculture has improved specimens. Leaders in this field are Lorenz von Ehren, in Hamburg, Germany who provided trees for Canary Wharf.
