For crying out loud

Article Abstract:

The unplanned nature of the South Bank Arts Centre on the banks of the River Thames in London gives the whole complex a feeling of confusion and disunity. The complex is generally untidy and is not a welcome place for visitors who wish to see works of art and attend plays. Plans to re-assess the complex have been suggested by the Arts Council yet nothing has been done. Arts complexes in Australia and New York are a good example of how to group distinctive buildings together without creating an ugly bolt on the landscape.

The delivery boys

Article Abstract:

Housing policy remains the responsibility of the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Religions under Prime Minister Tony Blair, yet construction policy has been given to the Department of Trade and Industry. This complex arrangement has resulted in contradictory planning and local residents often wrongly evicted.
