Gateway, Microsoft reach pact to promote Net access
Article Abstract:
Gateway Inc., a North Sioux City, SD-based PC direct marketer, has forged a deal with Microsoft, underwhich it will promote its own Internet access service on desktop screens and help consumers more easily to select an Internet browser that is not from Microsoft. The company is set to begin marketing Windows 98 computers that allow users to click on its Internet service icon and go to another screen designed by Gateway that will give them a choice of Internet access and browser. Meanwhile, the agreement comes following a government lawsuit that accused Microsoft of developing restrictive contracts with computer firms, limiting them from promoting features and services from Microsoft's competitors.
