Germans plan to become Europe's largest package deliverer
Article Abstract:
The Deutsche Post AG aims to become the largest courier, express and parcel service in Europe within five years. It also hopes to gain the biggest share of the European market, which is estimated at 44 billion German marks annually. The goal was disclosed by the company's CEO, Dr. Klaus Zumwinkel, after the European Commission approved a German acquisition of a 22.5% stake in California-based DHL. Zumwinkel plans to achieve this through a series of joint ventures with foreign transportation companies and the formation of a wholly-owned start-up company.

Pizza Hut serves up free AOL trial in Japan test
Article Abstract:
America Online delivered free subscription software to Japanese customers who ordered home-delivery pizza from Pizza Hut. By piggybacking on Pizza Hut deliveries, AOL hoped to promote its services to the typical young urban dweller who likes to order pizza. The month-long promotion asked customers if they had a personal computer at home before delivering the CD-ROM. The CD-ROM contained an installation software offering 50 hours of free access to AOL, plus pizza-themed computer games and a pizza-looking desktop wallpaper.
