Go Sailing improves on 1997 showing

Go Sailing, an event designed to promote sailing and familiarize more nonsailors to the sport, raised more money this year compared to last year, having raised $22,698 for the Leukemia Society based on 47 reports filed as of Aug. 11, 1998. Almost 2,200 participants paid $10 each per demonstration rides, and a number of boat dealers reported either making a sale or accepting a deposit. When all returns are entered, over 5,000 rides are expected to have offered and $50,000 to have been raised. Newport, RI-based marketing organization Sail America, the event's main sponsor, said that the event, which was held on Jul. 25 & 26, 1998, was attended by over 150 sailing dealerships and schools out of the 202 areas that signed up for the event.

Brunswick appealing $133M verdict
Article Abstract:
Brunswick Corp. of Little Rock, AR, hopes to appeal the decision which granted Independent Boat Builders Inc. of Benton, IL, $133.2 million in damages, plus attorney fees. Meanwhile, the company also stands to face a lawsuit, which charges the company and its Mercury Marine division in Fond du Lac, WI, of antitrust violations related to its outboard operations. The suit is seeking sale of the company's boat companies, which include U.S. Marine/Bayliner in Arlington, WA; Sea Ray Boats in Knoxville, TN; and Sea Ray's Boston Whaler and Baja units.
