Cornish Stairways, UK has a 3 million pounds sterling turnover a year and has captured the upper end of the UK staircase market. In Nov 1992 the firm completed a 500,000 pounds sterling staircase for the Provident Mutual building which is the largest spiral staircase in Europe. The firm's success is due to emphasis on design. It handles all aspects of design from aesthetic to structural and manufactures and installs. The majority of work undertaken is for spiral staircases up to 2.4 metres in radius. Stainless steel and brass are the favourite materials for the balustrading with precast white stair treads.

Article Abstract:
The Euro Disneyland theme park to the east of Paris, France is the second largest construction site in Europe. The Walt Disney Company is working with contractors from all over Europe but admits to few problems despite cultural differences and the complexity of the project. Six hotels, each with a strong theme, are under construction while the park and special effects are being build under a separate contract using traditional and specialised trades. The French government is investing in infrastructure around the site but there is a shortage of housing for employees.

Article Abstract:
Belgium offers ideal opportunities for the UK construction industry, however few UK companies have established trade there. Belgium is 40 minutes away from London by air and has the most stable construction market in Europe. Belgium is the sixth largest importer of UK goods. Its estimated construction industry output for 1993 is 15.5 billion pounds sterling and construction work is expected to increase by 2% up to 1995. Opportunities for UK firms exist for cost-effective products that reduce construction time and English traditional-style houses.
