Green and pleasant
Article Abstract:
The Elizabeth Fry Building, University of East Anglia, Norwich, England only requires 50% of the energy supply of equivalent buildings. Only 9,700 pounds sterling is spent on electric and gas supplies for the building each year. The four storey building contains 50 offices, three lecture halls each seating 130 people, and 14 seminar rooms. It cost 820 pounds sterling per square metre to build in 1995. The simplicity of the building has been admired and its internal design has been appreciated by its new occupants. John Millar and Partners were the architects for the project.

Silver machine: The passenger terminal of Southampton International airport was rebuilt as a model regional airport terminal in 1994
Article Abstract:
Southampton airport in the UK receives high scores in customer surveys. This is due mainly to its straightforward, compact layout. There have been several remodels undertaken since the building opened three and a half years ago. The public spaces are uncluttered and flooded with daylight, making the terminal wheelchair-friendly. However the major addition of the new cafe-restaurant in an Edwardian retro design, undermines the building's modern architectural image.

Volt hole
Article Abstract:
The electrical control plant at Llandudno in Wales has provided the community with a tourist shelter and has a very attractive outlook despite the initial concerns of the local planning authority. The plant has been built to replace the last building which was destroyed by bad weather and had to be positioned near the promenade to perform its function. It has been designed to withstand bad weather and doubles up as a useful tourist facility.
