Floyd's legacy: lost business
Article Abstract:
Eastern North Carolina's coastal marine industry was the hardest hit when Hurricane Floyd wreaked destruction and flooding in the Bahamas in Sep 1999. The area's marinas suffered not only from the physical damage wrought by the hurricane but from business interruption as well. Business stopped as boatowners were more concerned about their homes than their boats. Damage to boats alone was estimated at $141.8 million in the US with North Carolina accounting for $34 million.
