Impossible challenge
Article Abstract:
The Liverpool City Challenge was 1 out of 20 schemes which won the UK government's City Challenge launched in Jul 1992. The government is providing 37.5 million pounds sterling over 5 years; 7.5 million pounds sterling a year. The project will cost 170 million overall and will benefit 16,000 people. A 140 hectare site based at Lime Street Station will be regenerated. The project includes new social, private and student housing, remodelling of the shopping centre, environmental improvements and job creation schemes. The project is managed by a 14-member team.

Unexploded land mine
Article Abstract:
Housebuilders are calling on the government to introduce incentives in order to address the problems which are developing due to stagnant house prices and high value of land. A recent BBC documentary forecast that house prices would continue to fall in real terms over the next 20 years. The housing market has recently been affected by reduced tax relief on mortgage interest, rising interest rates, and possible elimination of income support for mortgage payments for the unemployed.
