Off the shelf

Article Abstract:

Sainsbury's will begin operating its JS Data Stream Internet-based document handling system on Aug 1, 1999. This approach is designed to reduce the costs incurred by Sainsbury's designers through printing artwork and distributing it by post or courier. The company will not force its consultants to use JS Data Stream, but it appears that those not using it will be gradually priced out of the market. The system, designed in collaboration with Visual Technology, will allow all drawings to be stored in a limited-access Internet site.
