Article Abstract:
British companies wishing to work in Europe must ensure any contracts and negotiated agreements are fully understood by both sides and fulfill all the legal requirements. A British company was contracted by a German firm to provide valves for a piece of machinery which was going to be built by the German company but used in the UK. The contracts agreed by both parties were found to be fault once a problem had occurred between the two companies. They had referred to laws made by the United Nations which did not exist. Difficult negotiations were necessary before the problem was resolved.
