Article Abstract:

Sir John Egan's 1998 report on the UK construction industry 'Rethinking Construction' does not include sufficient advice, for the construction industry, on how to apply some of his ideas. Builders need to take responsibility for the whole project and be able to make a relationship with their clients. They must also be willing to include building consultants on their team. The UK government seems to be reluctant to legislate a change from the competitive contract system. Smaller companies must adhere to the report if they wish to remain competitive in the construction industry.

Sir Michael Latham

Article Abstract:

The new Labour government of the United Kingdom will modify the management of council homes with a combination of public and private sector schemes and will continue to use housing associations. It will closely control capital spending despite council requirements for new homes and will probably help disabled people by advocating changes to building regulations. Many believe it will take action to house those who are homeless.
