DHL Worldwide wins right to fly in the U.S
Article Abstract:
DHL Airways Inc has been granted by the Dept of Transportation (DOT) the right to fly US routes. The DOT rejected arguments by Federal Express Corp and United Parcel Service of America Inc (UPS) that DHL should not be eligible to fly between US cities because it is foreign-owned. The German post office Deutsche Post has 51% of DHL. In a separate complaint, UPS argued that DHL would provide unfair competition because Deutsche Post had a history of abusing its monopoly through cross subsidies. The DOT ruled that there was no evidence Deutsche Post was subsidizing DHL operations.
