R.R. Donnelley to close IA facility
Article Abstract:
RR Donnelley and Sons Co will close its printing plant in Des moines, IA, by Jul 1, 2002. The shutdown will be gradual and eventually will slash 775 jobs. The plant produces various magazines still under contract as well as catalogs and newspaper inserts. Production will be transitioned to the printer's 40 other plants, but no definite decisions have been made. The shutdown follows the printer's closure of operations in St Petersburg, FL; South Daytona, FL; and Houston, TX.

R.R. Donnelley begins $100 million, three-year expansion in Poland
Article Abstract:
The $5-billion printing company R.R. Donnelley will spend $100 million in Poland to expand its existing operations and to construct a new printing plant. The expansion would include the acquisition of new Heidelberg M-600 presses. Donneley, which started its operations at Krakow in 1993, currently employs 600 workers but will double that number to 1,200 with the completion of its expansion program.
