Building indicators
Article Abstract:
The current political climate in the UK is one reason why the construction industry continues to suffer difficult market conditions, but other factors are also delaying a recovery. The most recent quarterly Building Indicators show that the recession in the industry is still getting worse, with private sector house starts at an all-time low of 29,000 and little chance of an improvement in the first quarter of 1992. There has been some improvement in public works, but levels have only returned to those of 12 months ago.

Jeremy Whithers Green
Article Abstract:
British housebuilders are expected to reduce their interest in greenfield sites as towns and city centre sites are fast becoming preferential to some customers. A recent national television report has indicated that nearly-new properties are not as likely to sell as quickly as urban dwellings. The industry expects to see a gradual rise in house prices during 1996, although this will not be marked and in some cases is questionable.
