Site screens
Article Abstract:
Construction company, Higgs and Hill has a policy of installing personal computers on all sites. Larger sites are linked to the company's central computer. The company pioneered the use of microcomputers on site in the early 1980s but only introduced its policy for all sites after the success of a large project in 1991 and the availability of more powerful computers. Site staff have access to the computerised planning and drawing register and can run cash management and contractor payment programmes. Training was provided for staff and the technology is proving popular.

The battle of Hastings. (dispute over shopping centre site in Hastings)
Article Abstract:
A dispute has broken out between a main contractor on a shopping centre site in Hastings, and the subcontractor. The subcontractor found that part of its area of work was in abeyance with the piling contractor still working in the area. Despite seeking time extensions the subcontractor did not receive a reply from the contractor, until the contractor complained about the subcontractor's lack of performance and staffing levels. The subcontractor eventually withdrew from the site, along with two other sites.
